Crushing...

Boys were no interest to me until easily 11 or 12. I truly never remember thinking of them as anything but friends, and remember thinking those girls who followed them around in gradeschool were "weird". Which is entirely why my four year old who speaks of how "IN LOVE" (yes, exact words - not sure where he even heard them) he is with LAYLA is so interesting, sweet and frightening all wrapped up in one.

This preschool crush is something else. Lately, there isn't a day that goes by that Colin doesn't talk about Layla, the "pretty" "brown haired" little girl in his class that evidently has the heart of 3 others too. I get reports on Tuesdays and Thursdays that are now including how Colin wants to eat next to Layla, nap next to her, and on the drive home from school the other day, he even said, "Mama, I have a secret: I asked Layla to hold my hand and she said yes. I love her a lot". The comment that still takes the cake is how I heard Colin talking to Logan (with no adults around), telling him he was going to marry her and have 5 kids. OH BOY!

Today, there was a special Ice Cream Social for the pre-K kids and the Kindergarten kids with whom they have been spending time. Not a regular school day, I took the kids for a quick pop in. Immediately, I watched Colin scan the room before he saddled up to the little brunette I have been hearing about for weeks. Indeed she was sweet and darling and dare I say flirting back in a shy little way. It was quite a sight, and soon I was being asked to take a picture of them by Colin.

And so here they are. I'm not sure I am ready for all this yet!! :)
