Our first garden

Today was a great day spent building our very own garden. We didn't take on anything too huge, but it turned out to be a lovely little space filled with 2 types of tomatoes, eggplant, bell peppers, basil, serrano chili peppers, jalapeno peppers, and cilantro. We also have 3 sweet strawberry bushes that are in their own beautiful pot that sits next to our raised bed.

It was a great bonding experience with the contributions of our sweet family of four as well as my dad. Carving out the area, putting together the box, 3 trips to the nursery for a total of 11 bags of organic mixed soil, fertilizing and then planting our organic seedlings... it was a really neat process. I'm so excited to see how it all grows and comes to life!!
The final result! :)

Our little chef!

Maybe it comes from my dad, maybe his own curiosity with life and food, but Colin does love to get involved when cooking is happening. I don't claim much in the chef department, but perhaps he will assist me to be more creative and learn more about preparing delicious and nutritious meals! Just this morning, when I mentioned I was going to make oatmeal, it took him 5 seconds flat to get his apron and chef hat on (courtesy of Judy) and climb up on a chair to contribute to the process. I love that he loves this, and even more so- how he reminds me that he wants to cook "healthy food" with me. Today I signed him up for a Tots & Pots class through our community. He is so excited, he looked like he won the lotto! I will absolutely continue encouraging this interest!

21 on 21

Happy 21 months to my Logan! It's a special day as it's your 21st month of life on the 21st and also the first day of spring!!

This past month, Logan has continued to grow so much in the vocabulary department. In fact during our visit to Oregon this past weekend, I swear he learned 10 more words!! He regularly talks about Elmo and his favorite Sesame Street friends, and is also verbalizing his favorite foods "peas", "blues (berries)", "Cheese", "wa wa" and lets us know when he has finished by saying 'ah duh"... he also has picked up a couple other phrases such as "Happy Bees" (a favorite song in our house), and 'bye mama" and "I Of You!". And the best of all, over the past week he has begun searching for one of us saying "mama, are you?" His little voice is just so darn sweet and most of all, I LOVE LOVE LOVE how he has an ear to ear smile when he knows he is being heard and understood. It feels that all we are doing is clapping and praising.... just as it should be in raising little ones!!

As for our wonderful trip to see Grammie (or Mimi as Logan calls her), we couldn't have had a better visit. It was so special to have peaceful and relaxing moments together. Not much planned... nothing expected.... just time together. I loved watching Logan and Grammie together and I know it meant so much to both of them to really connect amidst the quiet. By the end of the weekend, Logan was coming to find her saying "Mimi, are you??". Melted my heart.

It just keeps getting better, and there really is no more to say than this! Love my Lo Lo's!!

Moment of pause

Something about tiny hand prints on my kitchen table makes me pause. Not because I remember the words of a friend who warned me I would get quickly irritated at how much more evident EVERYTHING is on a glass table vs wood. But a happy pause that reminds me how our home is lived in by 2 little children. These are stamps of life, and they are just so sweet!

I'm so glad I inked both of my babies' hands when they were a week or two old. I love looking back at the smallness of them. And now I get to see (on my table!!) how they are growing and changing.

By the way, it seems that in the last two weeks Colin has entered into a more rational, less chaotic, and less defiant state. (See last post) :)

Yay for growth and change and tiny little hands :)
