5 weeks, 1 day

This is an important marker for me because when Colin was 5 weeks to the day, breastfeeding went all haywire. Colin was quite small and not gaining weight and not nursing as much as was needed to continue a plentiful milk supply. I remember the day like yesterday- the visit to the lactation specialist who in retrospect, I believe panicked prematurely and scared me into beginning supplementing. I tried my very best to get my supply back and succeeded some, but was never able to exclusively nurse past 5 weeks.

There is something very emotional about nursing and I am just so happy that I learned a few tricks along the way (with the help of a hearty baby at birth) to be able to cross past 5 weeks and know everything is going wonderfully with nursing Logan. I have moments of anxiety at times- say when he sleeps for an unusually long stretch or I pump less than typical, but I know this go around will be and is different, thank goodness!!

At 5 weeks old...
Logan - about 12 lbs, pumping 3-4 oz in a stretch
Colin - 7 lbs, 8 oz, pumping 1 oz IF I WAS LUCKY in a stretch.

Crazy how different each experience can be!
